Personal Notes:
According to Mildred Cowan, Michael Fisher's great-granddaughter (Tony Cowan's mother), he was a farmer who lost his land during the Land League days. It is said that he took a job as head gardener in a big house in Raphoe square, apparently still there. (It was later owned, she thinks, by a family called Alexander.) His son Charles Fisher's marriage certificate gives his father's name as Mutsal but this seems to be a transcription error for Michael. In 1865, when son Michael born, lived in Meeting House Street, Raphoe and described as a "dealer". In 1869, when son James born, lived in Close Lane, Raphoe and described as a "labourer". Still there in 1872 when daughter Mary Anne born. A John O'Donnell was present at his death. Census returns would suggest alternative birth years of 1827 and 1841! Living at 14 Raphoe Town in 1901 and 2 McBride Street, Raphoe in 1911.
